Aries New Moon May 2021 (Vedic Sidereal Astrology)
What’s the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?
Western astrology is based on where the planets were 2,000 years ago, and Vedic astrology more accurately places the planets where they are currently.
As many of our readers know, Michael and I follow Vedic Sidereal Astrology which places the new moon in Aries, on Tuesday, May 11th.
What Does the Aries New Moon Bring With It?
Aries is the sign of the ram. Determined, fast-moving, sometimes aggressive, but mostly just filled with life and exuberance. While the pros of Aries will be their can-do attitude and their willingness to take initiative, because of their fiery nature, this also can lead to some downfalls. Aries can often move too quickly, not paying attention to details, they also may tire out quickly and become easily agitated.
Knowing this about Aries, it’s time to reflect on how these attributes play out in your own world. Aries people are the bearers of new beginnings, in fact, they are the first sign of the zodiac. So not only is it a new moon, but it’s in the sign that is the epitome of new beginnings.
Some Questions to Reflect on During the Aries New Moon
It’s always a good idea to journal out your thoughts during the different moon phases as each one will give us different perspectives. It’s also important to take time, sit silently, and reflect upon these questions so that you are able to dive deeply and observe what feelings and answers come up.
Writing these answers out can be useful for tracking progress, or simply seeing how far you’ve come or would like to continue to go. We suggest returning back to this entry during the corresponding full moon, the following new moon in Taurus, and even the new moon in Aries in 2022.
Where can I take more initiative in my life?
Where can I be overly aggressive, or not ambitious enough?
What does determination mean to me, and how can I feel more determined and focused in my everyday life?
What else is happening with the Planets?
Remember that even though the new moon is the focus, it’s not the only thing happening in the sky. The sun is in Taurus which is the overall energy, ushering in stability, beauty, sensuality, and the need to reflect on what we would like to communicate.
Aries and Taurus are quite different energies, so keep in mind how you may feel with both of these energies playing out at this time. For example, you may feel the need to move quickly, but also build stability. You may have the urge to beautify, but also skip the details. There also may be an overall feeling of stubbornness as Taurus is known for this, and Aries isn’t the easiest as it can be an impulsive sign. Notice if you’re being a bit too stubborn for no reason, or on the other side, you’re feeling rash when it comes to what you desire.
Outside of that, Jupiter continues to be in Aquarius which brings with it new opportunities for humanity. Aquarius is represented by innovation and technology, and Jupiter is the magnifying planet.
During this week there is an uptick in creativity and innovative ideas. There can be a lot of focus on the way we think about money and how we communicate with each other about it. There is still quite a bit of polarity and some people may be coming from a place of fear when communicating. People may also feel angry because they don’t feel like they are being heard.
Mantras to support you during this time.
The Mukti Mantra – aka: The Healing Mantra
This mantra is a tongue twister, but you can purchase and download it from our website to play it and chant along (it’s known as “The Healing Mantra” on our website). The Mukti Mantra can be used to strip away fear. It can be used for those who are sick or play in your kitchen so the healing energy of the mantra infuses your food.
Mantra: OM Tryambakam yajamahe Sugandhim pushti vardhanam
Urvarukamiva bandhanan Mrityor mukshiya mamritat
Phonetic spelling: Om tra-yam-BA-kam ya- jaa-MA-he Su-gan-dhim pu-shti-var- dha-NAM Ur-vaa-ru-ka-mi-va ban- DHA-naat Mrit-yor-muk-shee-ya maam-RI-taa
Vastu Purusha Mantra – aka: The House Harmonizing Mantra

Gayatri Mantra – aka: The Savitri Mantra
This highly revered mantra comes from the Rig Veda and is dedicated to Savitir, a sun deity. It can be chanted for protection and purification and to align oneself with the divine feminine principle.
Mantra: Om Bhur Bhuvah Suvaha Tat Savitur Varenyam Bargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodaya
Phonetic Spelling: Om Bhoor Bhoo-va Su- va-ha Tat Sa-vee-toor Var-ayn- yam Bar-go Day-vas-ya Dhee- ma-hee Dhee-yo Yo Nah Pra- cho-da-yaat
Chanting any mantra 108 times a day using a Mantra Bead Necklace (a practice known as japa) is a wonderful form of spiritual practice and brings many blessings. Using a necklace in sandalwood, like the one Michael is holding below, is powerful because the vibration of the mantra is transferred into the sandalwood, infusing the necklace with the mantra and when worn, blesses you throughout the day.
This Monday, May 10th, Mantra Mondays will be back!! We’ll chant some of these mantras together along with others! We’re excited to highlight this new moon and planetary energy and bring you more details on Facebook and Instagram Live Monday at 11 am PDT. Let’s chant together, talk about astrology and ignite a community altar together. See you soon!!
Our altar this month is the Spirituality Altar.
This altar will help you to focus on your deeper spiritual inner work.
If you wish to make your own Spirituality Altar and ignite it along with us, here’s how…place this altar on an east wall in the northeast corner of a room. If you would like, you can begin defining the altar area with a piece of fabric, a shawl, or altar cloth of some sort where the altar items will be placed. The colors of gold and white should be represented on the altar through the items chosen and the altar cloth used. The items on the altar are added in these specific directions:
NW – Air element: a feather, incense
NE – Water element: a cup of pure water, a clear vase of fresh or silk flowers
SE – Fire element: a candle or incense
SW – Earth element: a blow of uncooked rice, crystals, anything from the earth
Center/Offering Tray – Space element: a small plate or tray to place your hopes and desires, yantras, or items that evoke a personal meaning
Personal Symbol – Placed behind the Offering Tray: a collage, statue, photo, of what this altar means for you For more information on this altar and all eight directional altars, along with the Full Moon Altar, please read our book, Altars of Power and Grace, available in digital format on our website and on Amazon.
