Science has confirmed that everything in the universe is energy and vibration. In Ayurvedic medicine it is believed that at the very basic level, we are made of the five elements –earth, fire, water, air and space– vibrating in harmony with large energy sources such as the sun and moon. Because our nervous systems are electric and our blood contains iron, we are like electromagnetic tuning forks, affected by not only what is seen in our physical world, but by the nuances of energetic vibrations that surround us. When we are living in harmony with these energies, we thrive. When we are not, we struggle and suffer in a multitude of ways.
Vastu Shastra is a sister science of Ayurveda that explains the relationship between you and your and the environment in which you live. It offers easy-to-do corrections that reduce the external stress affecting your life. According to ancient texts, each of the five elements is associated with a specific area of your home. The more time you spend in your home, or any physical structure like your workspace or office, the more it will influence your health or your abundance. In general terms, when the five elements are out of balance and get stuck, you experience reduced income, disharmony, illness and/or disease of some kind. By applying the principles of Vastu, you can circumvent many issues that might manifest as challenges or serious physical concerns.
Try these simple Vastu corrections and observe the affect they have on your health, happiness and quality of life:
Question: Do you feel insecure and experience lack of support from friends and family?
The southwest area is associated with the earth element and is connected with support, career, low back, constipation, ungrounded or spacey feelings, food and/or drug addiction, and bone cancer.
* If you have clutter, a toilet, a stove or any missing corners in the southwest area of your home the earth element will be reduced.
Vastu Corrections: To strengthen this element, say the sound LAM while in the southwest area of your home, repeated softly out loud five times daily. This sound/vibration strengthens the earth element. Use earth tones as accent colors as throw pillows, wall color or drapery. Additionally, pictures of mountain scenery or live plants placed in the southwest area, like Golden Pathos, which absorbs radiation, would also support wellbeing. If there is clutter, remove it. It has more impact in your life than you can imagine.
Question: Do you feel you are struggling, swimming against the current of life?
The northeast area is connected to the water element and material, physical and spiritual growth, financial problems, weight issues, reproductive and menstrual concerns, as well as prostate, breast, and ovarian cancer.
* Check the northeast area of your home for clutter, a toilet, a stove or a missing corner. These compromise the water element in your home.
Vastu Corrections: Chanting the sound VAM five times daily, repeated softly out loud, while in the northeast area of your home will bring this element into balance. Adding yellow accent colors as pillows, spreads, rugs, etc., will also strengthen the water element. Pictures of oceans, rivers or lakes, and even a fountain in this area will add support. Definitely remove any clutter.
Question: Do you feel tired and lack motivation?
The southeast area is associated with the fire element and your productivity, passion, vitality, digestion, food allergies and blood sugar issues, like diabetes. It is also associated with liver, kidney and pancreatic cancer.
* If you are having any of these challenges look in the southeast area of your home for clutter, a toilet or missing corners. These reduce the fire element.
Vastu Corrections: To strengthen the fire element chant the sound RAM softly out loud five times daily while in the southeast area of your home. Add warm colors as accents and include pictures of the desert. A Himalayan salt lamp will purify the air in this area. And again, get rid of the clutter.
Question: Do you feel a lack of harmony with those around you?
The northwest area is associated with the air element and is connected to relationships, communication, sleep, depression, sinus allergies, heart and lungs, as well as lung cancer.
* If you are having any of these challenges, look in the northwest area of your home for clutter or missing corners. They reduce the air element in the northwest area of your home.
Vastu Corrections: Stabilize the air element by chanting the sound YAM softly out loud five times daily while in the northwest. Use light blue accent colors for walls, pillows and drapery. Pictures of the sky, wind chimes and mobiles are also recommended for the northwest. Additionally, remove clutter.
Question: Do you feel a lack of success in many areas of life?
The center of a home is associated with the space element and is connected to your success in all areas. An imbalance in this area can affect thyroid, self-expression.
* If you are felling extremely blocked, look in the central area of your home or office. Do you have clutter, a toilet, a furnace, fireplace or a staircase near the central area of your home? These reduce the space element.
Vastu Corrections: Support the space element by chanting the sound OM out loud daily five times while in the center area of your home. Use white accent colors and pictures of outer space in the central area to balance this element. Remove any clutter.
Note: To correct missing corners, extensions and severe challenges in your home, we suggest contacting a professional Vastu Practitioner.
